Every year at this time I stoically don my LL Bean stuff and try not to look at the calendar until late March. Once the Super Bowl is over there really isn’t much happening until Easter. There is Black History Month of course but other than that there is usually just cold weather and the grind to make it to spring.
I realize that I sound like an incredible wimp to some of you who live up north. I heard Brian Williams read a note from someone recently about waterfalls freezing. Apparently they freeze a lot and for long periods of time up there. I am impressed. We have had just a dusting of snow so far this winter.
And yesterday we nearly reached eighty degrees outside. It was a sunny day with a light breeze and very comfortable. It was, in a word, delightful. There was no grinding. There was no need for LL. There was only an ability to close one’s eyes and imagine it was late September.
Beth and I usually head down to Florida around Easter for a couple of weeks. This year we may not need to go. Welcome to Virginia.
