Congratulations New York Giants
Table of contents for 3/Sports
I am looking forward to a great game this weekend as the Cowboys and the Giants decide who is going to the next level.
And based on my prior post it is clear where I have to come down regarding a prediction. I am going to go out on a limb and say that the New York Giants will beat the Dallas Cowboys. And if I am wrong my string of successful predictions will come to an end. You can read the prior posts in my Sports section and see that I predicted: The Red Sox would win the World Series. And the Redskins would beat the Cowboys. Because the Cowboys have lost the Will to Win. They wanted to rest and not get hurt even though many of them actually played in the game. Because you can play in the game and still pretend you are sitting on the sideline. And these guys still don’t recognize that what is between your ears trumps your physical assets unless it is a physical mismatch.
And once you start doing this it is very difficult to go back the other way. That’s why I applauded the Giants when they took the Patriots deep into the game before things were decided. They treated it like it was a playoff game. And this was a very smart move on their part. Because if you can almost beat the Patriots you sure as hell can spank the Cowboys!
The Giants are confident. And they will win.
I would bet money on it except no one around here will take my bet. But I have put myself on the line in any case and this post will stay up here forever whatever the outcome. And if the Giants should lose THAT will be worse than losing many clam shells. Because I don’t like leaving mistakes on my blog.
I don’t like it one little bit. Go Giants.
Prediction
Giants 28
Dallas 21
Giants win 21 to 17
Congratulations New York Giants!

Nice Fall Day
I have been waiting weeks for a fall day like today. It was cool. It was dry. And there was lots of sunshine. We are starting to see some color in the trees. Last night might have gotten down into the high 30’s in some areas . It was 41 degrees F when I went out this morning about 6 am. Beth is coming back this evening so I’m feeling good and enjoying life.
Thank God I am not a writer. I can’t imagine what kind of hell it must be to try and write all the time. And to have your income dependent on it. Forget about it! No wonder Hemingway and Fitzgerald drank like fish. Well, I’m sure there were other reasons too. Ernest was dressed up like a girl when he was small and his father killed himself. That probably didn’t help.
Writing is not fun. I have never heard anybody say it was fun. Do you think it’s fun? Please tell me if you do.
And then nobody said a word about the story! It’s like you get up in front of an audience and perform something. So then you finish doing your little skit or whatever and there’s not a sound. I’m not saying people should fall out of their seats because they are so excited about it. But my little sister came to the rescue awhile ago! She saved the day. She said it was “funny”. That’s all I need. I’m not trying to get a book published. Constructive criticism would be good too. I’m sure Beth will give me some of that!
I’m just trying to figure out how to write a weblog. And I’m still not ready to say I’ve decided how to do it. Things are still evolving. Little experiments are still happening. But I am actually doing you all a favor. It’s hard to believe but look at it this way. If I someday figure out something that’s novel and interesting then you all will be the first ones to see what it is! Then you can do it too!
I’m not saying that is going to happen. But you never know. I was thinking today that a really important thing that readers (including me) like to do is express an opinion on a blog. We like to do that but there are some qualifications. Religion and politics are out for most of us. They are just too hot to handle and things quickly get out of hand. In my opinion they are not that interesting either.
The other thing is that people like to express an opinion but they don’t want to hurt anyone’s feelings. So, for instance, if I posted a photo and asked for opinions about it probably a lot of folks would not express their opinion. They would worry about hurting someone’s feelings. Or if they thought it was good they would see that two or three folks already said that and so why be redundant? People like to have unique opinions. We are all unique individuals. And our opinions reflect that fact. We don’t want to be hemmed in when we start commenting about something. And the areas I have mentioned all constrict readers in different way from stating the truth as they see it.
So what could I offer that would let folks hang loose and express their wit and wisdom without fear? That’s the big question. I don’t have the answer. But I am going to be thinking a lot about it. Why? Because I love to hear what people think. And there are millions of places where I can go this instant to get some of that. But that’s not as good. Because those are strangers. I’m talking about having a conversation with someone in the here and now about something that’s interesting.
What could it be? I thought about the weather. People like to talk about the weather. And comparing weather from around the world might be interesting. But how can you have an opinion about the weather? You might have an opinion that it’s going to get better or colder or something. But that’s your weather. Unless we live in the same area it doesn’t really matter much to me how things might be tomorrow.
Sports? I don’t know that much about sports. The Red Sox won the World Series last night! And if you go back and look you will see that I predicted before the playoffs that they would do it! But I got all the other series outcomes wrong. And I wouldn’t care at all except that I grew up loving the Red Sox in Massachusetts. So sports is not the thing. And there are plenty of people doing that already.
I am in a quandry at the moment. Photography is great. I love taking photos and posting them. But like I said earlier you are not going to get a real bang up conversation or debate about photos unless the person who took them has been dead for twenty years.
So that has been my nice fall day. As you can see it involved more than enjoying the weather. Hopefully a good idea will come along soon.
Waiting For D/ Part V
Table of contents for The Alien Invasion
As you know the aliens left with Dr. D last night. And they promised to send in autumn as a parting gift. Maybe they flipped the wrong switch because it didn’t get any colder today but it did pour down rain most of the day. I can’t complain too much because we are having drought like conditions here in Virginia. Beth flew to New York for the weekend so it’s pretty quiet around here. No aliens. No brother. No wife. Just a guy and his Andrea Bocelli cd’s. And his HDTV with the World Series and the Boston Red Sox winning two games to zip.
Maybe things aren’t so bad after all.
I am still a little concerned about the President however. Apparently he has decided he likes outer space and he particularly likes flying speed of light alien vehicles. You really can’t take the let’s fly mentality out of an old jet pilot. D told me this morning that he was giving orders to the crew and somehow convinced them to let him take the controls of a scout craft. The next thing anybody knew he was gone. He flew out the hatch and headed towards home.
I hope he manages to communicate with somebody before he tries to land or he might get a laser beam up his Presidential Seal. We have been trying to shoot down our alien buddies for about thirty years now and every once in awhile they zig when they should have zagged . And then they discover we are not quite as helpless as we look most of the time. It’s one thing to surround some poor guy when he’s sleeping in bed and shoot him full of alien tranquilizers. And it’s quite another to meet up with him when he has his 21st century weaponry strapped on.
Well, I’m sure Dr. D and his friends will be back soon now that they have lost the President. Maybe Edgar can go into a trance and figure out where he is. How many days until Halloween? I just have a feeling things are going to reach some sort of resolution by the end of the month. Beth called and said that the moon looks beautiful up above the clouds. I should have warned her to watch out for a guy in a Presidential jacket trying to fly a craft that’s about five hundred years from being invented around here.
It’s the harvest season. What will we be bringing in this year? Sing to me Andrea. Share with us all the joys and sorrows found in the greatest music in the world. Help me to understand what is happening as we spin through space on a wobbly planet that seems just a bit upset with us and is thinking about throwing one very wild party.
