Share What You Have/ Love What You Do

I have gone into this zone the past few days that is hard to describe.   So instead of trying to do that I will just share what has been “going on” . . .

Yesterday it snowed for a few minutes.  Thick flakes filled the air and brought themselves to earth resting briefly around trees and on rooftops.

And today it is even colder.  It was in the mid twenties when I went out early this morning.  I have finished the photos for the local Chamber of Commerce Newcomer’s Guide.  And a the local NBC affiliate called and asked if they could use one of my photos over the next few days as a backdrop for the weather report.

I don’t know which one they are using.  Maybe I should tune in and find out.

I have been expressing a lot of the love I feel for this area in the past few weeks.  I guess some of it may be coming back.  Isn’t that the way it goes?

We all want to progress in our endeavors.  Perhaps it’s just a matter of sending out the best that you have and sending it with positive feelings.   It may really be far from perfect or even professional.  But how much of that is there around really?   Compared to the need?

There is room for much more in any case.  So share what you have!

And something good may come back to you.  Or you will just feel good in any case.

Here’s something you may enjoy if you have time to listen to it.

Colonial Downs/ Summer of 2008/ Beautiful Horses

Click on this photo for a really detailed look at some photos from this past summer. We went to Colonial Downs and had a great time watching the horses prepare for races and then go out and show their stuff.

The conditions were difficult for me given the hot midday sun and the constant motion. And you will see some noise when you take the large view. But I have decided to use this photo presentation more often. Maybe it will help me to be a better photographer if I am confronted with these imperfections on a more regular basis.

Dreaming About Taking Great Photos/ Photo Presentation Options

I have found lately that some of the best communication I have with fellow bloggers is not coming through comments here but through the Stumble Toolbar.  And that’s great.   It’s a very convenient way to communicate and you can get more done there with thumbs up and reviews and so forth.

It’s quick and that’s important to someone like me who can hold a thought for about ten seconds.  And so I will try to remember to respond more quickly to the SU toolbar message deal.

I’m feeling better this morning.  And I have been thinking about making frames and displaying some of my favorite photos.  The old neglected woodshop could use some activity too.  Here is something I was reading this am that convinced me to try it.

I have also been playing around at photo.net .   Posting a few photos and exploring the area.  They have some amazing photographers here.  The photos are stunning.  It makes me want to just become totally immersed in the art form.

Here are a few favorites I have collected in just a short while there.  The Osprey is just amazing, isn’t it?   I couldn’t take a photo like that in a million years of trying.  Perhaps I could take one of a girl taking a bath with a thirsty horse.  But I would have to find a girl willing to take a bath, a large container of water and a horse first of all.

Plus the lighting would have to be really nice and maybe a few other things that I haven’t even thought about.

Then there is this slide show deal that looks like it has possibilities.  The photos in general are not as great but they do an excellent job of allowing you to present your work. And while photo.net limits the size to 1500 pixels you can choose larger sizes with this setup.

So I’m focusing on the photos as we move forward and hoping to learn more about taking good ones. Better ones. Always hoping to move forward and someday take photos that will amaze the world.  These photos are from our trip last summer to Cape Cod to see Dad and Martha’s Vineyard to look for Carly Simon.

We can all dream. That’s what we are doing in fact.

It’s just nicer when we have pleasant ones.

Here’s a location to learn more about this historical area. A great thing happened on this plot of land barely a lifetime before I was born. A society built on slavery was defeated. It happened here. The documents were signed. I stood on the spot where Grant met Lee and looked around on this gorgeous fall day.

Nature seems to be celebrating on this day. Perhaps it is just my imagination but as I look around I am carried away with these thoughts. I am a soul who has seen an amazing thing happen in the past week.

Since childhood I have seen the transformation of a society from days of segregation to this time.

My soul celebrates. And nature brought the party here. There are a few days like this in a person’s life. I have driven by this spot many times on my way to Lynchburg. It was established long ago as a place for travelers to rest on their journeys back and forth from Richmond to Lynchburg.

But I never stopped until now.

And let’s try another photo.
