Colonial Downs/ Summer of 2008/ Beautiful Horses

Click on this photo for a really detailed look at some photos from this past summer. We went to Colonial Downs and had a great time watching the horses prepare for races and then go out and show their stuff.

The conditions were difficult for me given the hot midday sun and the constant motion. And you will see some noise when you take the large view. But I have decided to use this photo presentation more often. Maybe it will help me to be a better photographer if I am confronted with these imperfections on a more regular basis.

Your blogging friend has been asked to do the photos for a Visitor’s Guide published by the Chamber of Commerce in this area.

How about that?  And it’s a perfect time of year to take some photos of the outdoors with the leaves just starting to seriously turn different colors.

This publication will go out to thousands of people in the area and it will include a bio of the photographer. So I will be taking a lot of photos in the next few weeks. And there should be some photos of Heaven being published soon because that’s where I will be.

This has also got me thinking about publishing a book of poems and photos using Amazon.com. I’m a little late for this Christmas but we will see.

First things first and the Visitors Guide.

I will let you know how it goes.

Also a new edition of Wordpress has come out today.  It offers a couple of security fixes so it’s probably a good idea to “get er done”.   And prior to that . . . Today would be a good day to BACK UP the blog.  In fact I am going to do it right now and suggest you might want to do it too.

Vistaphotography/ Vistaphotos.net/ New England Photos

I recently discovered a photographer who takes photos that I really enjoy.  I’m going to have to add him to the list here and encourage Ron, Bernie and the rest of you to take a look at his work.   He’s a professional and travels around New England working for clients and finding  very interesting subjects for his own purposes.

I don’t think my fascination with these photos has anything to do with the fact that I grew up in these parts.  It’s something else.  But I can’t really put in into words.   Maybe somebody else can help.

In any case, I hope to learn something here.   His writing style is also very relaxed and interesting so it is easy to follow what he is saying.  He’s a fan of Adobe’s Lightroom and enjoys taking photos of Lighthouses!  His name is Jeff Folger.  Enjoy!

Jeff is doing Fall Foliage Reports up there in New England.  Here’s the link if you would like to follow along.  Please let me know how the foliage is doing in your area as well.   It’s always of great interest to those of us who like to take photos of nature having a big party.  Here’s the twitter link

Thursday Evening At The Botanical Gardens

af8 Thursday Evening At The Botanical Gardens

Beth bought us season passes to the Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens so your “photographer in training” can wander over there at will.

And this he did yesterday afternoon/evening.  They stay open until nine on Thursday and have events at this time to keep the locals amused.  On this occasion it happened to be wine tasting night.  And a jazzy little trio played so that as I discovered beautiful flowers popping up there was music to accompany the moment.

Just a great way to spend a Thursday evening.

This is the way the photos look if you load them with the WP photo editor.  The photo (above) of the robin was loaded from Flickr.  See the difference?  Shadow Image plugin at work.
