Rocking Ruminations

I asked a bunch of SU friends to look at my Thanksgiving post and consider reviewing it. And only one person did. So all I can do is think that everybody else did not like it and it is not very good. And I certainly don’t want anybody to review it or give it a thumbs up if it is not good.

It is easy enough for me to imagine that it is just a very poor essay. And I’m not going to lose any sleep about it. But I thought it made some good points and so I’m confused about it. I will continue to think about it and try to figure out why it got such a poor reception. But I may never figure it out. Sometimes it’s difficult to be objective about your own stuff.

It would be helpful if I got some feedback. But I don’t suppose anybody is going to stick their neck out and do that for me. In any case today was one of the best days ever in terms of traffic. The SU Manifesto post made a comeback for some reason and really took off. I thought it was through doing anything and the Thanksgiving post was going to take off. That’s the entertaining thing about SU and blogging in general. It will surprise you and ruin your predictions.

Jordin Sparks was on Regis and Kelly today. I wasn’t here but my beloved wife taped it for me. She is such a good person to do that for me. Jordin did a nice job singing Tatoo and then told everyone that she doesn’t have a date for her Senior Prom. Isn’t that amazing? No one has asked her to the big dance. What an opportunity wasted. My son Zachary will go with her. I will buy him a ticket to fly out there. And of course I will need to go with him so he will have some company before and after the dance. Just let me know Jordin how you feel about this. Zach’s photo is in here somewhere. He’s big and handsome. He won’t be intimidated at all by your fame. He’s the perfect date. And lets email a few times so I can do an interview with you here on the old weblog!

Missouri is playing Kansas on Saturday. It’s going to be a great college football game. I predict Missouri is going to win. Kansas is favored by two points.

I need to go on a diet and we haven’t even started the holidays yet. I’m afraid to think about what my waistline is going to look like after Thanksgiving dinner tomorrow. They say you can easily eat five thousand calories on Thanksgiving Day. Maybe almost double that! That’s a lot of calories. I wish I could stop eating so much. Theoretically I could stop putting so much stuff in my mouth. It would be good if I slowed down on the eating and speeded up on the Christmas shopping. What are the chances of this happening? Not good I am afraid.

One of my favorite blogger guys at Probloggersmatrix recently wrote that you should give your blog a year or two to be successful. That’s the first time I ever heard anyone talk about two years to get up to speed! I bet a lot of folks throw in the towel before the two years is up. I believe him when he says stuff like this. Things always seem to happen to guys who write about blogging and are followed by me. Not really bad things. But things that cause them to no longer write their blogs. The blog is sold. Or the blogger becomes ill and doesn’t write for awhile. I’ve been waiting for Probloggersmatrix to go on an extended vacation but so far it hasn’t happened. Maybe my blogging curse has run its course.

Let’s hope so.

Update: Did I just see that there is a song on Jordin’s new CD called …Virginia Is For Lovers. That’s not possible is it? No. It’s not according to this list which seems to be authoritative. Where did I see that?

My Blog Report

http://www.lifehack.org/articles/lifestyle/10-virtually-instant-ways-to-improve-your-life.html

Today’s blog report is about a very popular blog. In fact, I may have been the only person here who did not know about it. It is an inspired piece of work and something that can help every one of us every day of our lives. In my own small way I am trying to go in the same direction as the author. At least, IMHO that is true. But he is so far ahead I cannot see him. There are rumors that he passed this way some time ago. But it’s not something to worry about. Just relax and continue down the path. Enjoy the beautiful landscape but do not decide to go in another direction or give up. And I think this is an important part of his message. Learn the art of applying your best effort without straining yourself. Reach for the stars with grace and good humor .

Where will you be when you are disciplined enough to push aside old bad habits and embrace the constructive ideas he suggests? You will be in a new land. You will walk right out of the old places you knew and into a new country. Who knows. You might even meet the person you are following. And you may meet him where you have always lived.

I made a decision to write about a blog that I found interesting or inspiring in some way every day. And now I am going to add to that promise and read something that is inspirational every day. WWW.lifehack.org will be at the top of the list in that effort. But there are other sources as well. Because we are fortunate to always have people among us who are here to help us.

And not all of them write books or blogs. My wife, Beth, is someone like this. Perhaps you are fortunate enough in your own life to have someone who spends a great deal of time supporting others in one way or another. If you do maybe you should write about them and tell the world how much you appreciate them. How can it hurt? Where would you be without the help you received? The word hero is bandied about a lot these days. My definition is someone who focuses on helping other people a great deal of the time in a way that is constructive and encourages them to grow. These people are pushing the human race forward one step at a time. They set in motion vast forces that have unseen consequences far down the road. But the moment of conception is as simple as a handshake, a wave or a word of encouragement.

Leon Ho provides the inspiration to try and the ideas that lead in a promising direction. He shows us that there are treasures to be found in the blogs that are all around us. And in life as well.
