A Great Conversation With My Son/ Virginia Beach Rescue

Lately I have been focusing on the exercise thing and trying to move against the aging and death process that surrounds us all as time goes on.   But then I got a call from my older  son who is my hero in many respects.   Years ago when I was Mr. Mom I took care of him and his sister on a full-time basis and always tried to give him a hug and tell him how much I loved him.

Because it is true.  I have written poetry about him.  When I carried him around in the crook of my arm I felt as if I held a little god.  He is a cool  human being and anyone who knows him has found a source of good in this wacky world.

So he called me up tonight and told me about his latest promotion.  He’s managing several states for his company and only 34 years old!  But then he told me that he heard a woman scream a few days ago and went running down the street to find a man floating face down in a swimming pool.   He jumped in the water and pulled the guy the the side of the pool.  Then he started giving him CPR and called out to the guy’s wife who called 911.

“When I was pulling the guy through the water I thought I was pulling a dead guy”.

Well, the guy started to cough and then he came back to life.  They took him to the hospital and put him in a brief coma.  I guess that is what they do these days with people who have visited death’s door.  He seems to be improving and hopefully he will return to life.

Very few of us will be put in this kind of situation.  There are some guys and girls out there who experience it all the time in their work.  It must be an amazing thing to save someone’s life.

“How many ways are there to save someone’s life?”   is a thought worth pondering.

And it was the kind of phone call a parent loves to get.  I try not to spend time bragging on the kids around here since nobody really wants to hear about it except perhaps the other parent and the grandparents!

Another rule broken!  Oh well.
