The National Cathedral/ Washington DC

During our recent trip to DC we planned to spend an afternoon at the zoo.  But it was also a Spring Break week and when we drove by there the entrances were closed.

So then we decided to drive to my daughter’s home in Leesburg.  But as luck would have it we happened to drive right by this beautiful church.

Magnificent church.  Awe inspiring building.  It’s pretty much one of the most amazing buildings in the United States if not the world.  So when we drove by what did we decide to do?

You guessed it.

That is indeed one awe-inspiring building. And your images appear to have captured it’s grandeur beautifully. I’m assuming from the date (1970) that this was the year in which it was built. Interesting to see the choice of traditional, gothic style architecture that is more commonly found on ancient churches and cathedrals in Europe. An excellent piece of architecture for certain.

Actually, the Cathedral was begun in 1907 and the last finial was placed in 1990 on the tower of St. Peter, one of the two towers at the front of the Cathedral. I think the “St. Paul 1970″ inscription is to denote the end of construction of that tower.
