Craig Ferguson/ The Next Johnny Carson?

I have really started to enjoy Craig Ferguson since stumbling upon him in an interview he did with Michelle Pfeiffer.  I was amazed at that moment by the mental gymnastics he effortlessly pulled off to make an average conversation sparkle.

He is a very smart guy and a tremendous conversationalist.  Here is a video where Tommy Smothers says he is the heir apparent to Johnny Carson.  That’s a pretty cool assessment.  And it tells me that I’m not too far off in my appraisal of this guy.

I record his shows and generally play them at night before falling off to sleep.  It’s a nice way to end the day.  Craig you are a cool guy.  I admire you a lot.   And here is an interesting in depth look at Craig from someone who has some very good writing skills and a keen eye for detail.

Susan Braudy tries to get to the bottom of Craig’s sexuality.  Good luck there Susan!  He is a riddle wrapped in an enigma as the old saying goes.  But he is also a very good hearted guy and one who often says to his nervous guests “I will protect you”.   It really is a new kind of television he is inventing late at night.  Hopefully NBC will steal him away from CBS and give him the money he deserves and the time slot America needs him to have SOON.

Oops.  You know what?  I bet CBS doesn’t want this video flying around the internet.  If i can find it I will post it here ASAP.  Or go to YouTube and find it.  It’s worth the time and effort.

Nah, he’s not gay Ms. Braudy, it is rumoured he is getting married soon, very soon. He won’t say because he is very private of that area of his life. But his fans are totally watching the clues and when he’ll announce it. I do agree, he is very natural as a host and makes a show with truly no budget to speak of, even his boss has admitted to that. But I for one would not like him in prime time. It would restrict him even more and you can tell he has no tolerance with people telling him what to do. He has openly supported Jon Stewart for that position (taking over for Letterman if Letterman were to leave.)

Hey. How come you know so much about Craig? Maybe you ARE Craig. Maybe you are one of the characters he plays? :)

I am hoping he will take over for Leno since he has announced he will retire. Conan is not going to do well in that position if you want to talk about late, late night guys moving up to an earlier time period.

Late night comedy needs someone who will be fresh and inventive. Craig is that. And I disagree about him not being able to work with others. He is the most diplomatic guy I have ever seen. I watched his sit down with Letterman and was taking notes. This is how it is done.

I agree with you about his sexual preferences. He’s not gay. He’s funny and he’s a very empathetic person. And he will do anything for a laugh. I love watching unselfconscious people on television. They amaze me. How do you embarrass this guy? I don’t think you can.

Hi There. Did anyone else notice that at the very end of the interview, they cut something out, because in the final shot Tommy (?) has a bottle of wine (?) beside him in his chair? What was that? Did they cut something out? Did he try to give Craig a bottle of wine or something? Craig is a recovering alcoholic and that is not a secret. He talks quite openly about it and it is true. I wonder what happened there-speaking of censorship??? Or did Craig request that that part not be shown? What would he be celebrating? (see Yvonne’s post above) Hummmmmmm! I wonder??

Sounds like you are all quite new to the Craig Phenomenon. There are huge fan clubs, etc. for him. Feel free to visit my MySpace site where you can see from the listing of my “friends” how many there are just at that site (although I’m not a member of all of them). There are several more at Facebook, etc. He is great, funny, articulate and kind to his guests. Also, as far as his love life goes… he’s been dating Megan Cunningham, an art dealer, for a few years. They will probably be marrying soon.
