Relaxation Exercise/ Counting Beautiful Things

In is no secret that I have a penchant for beautiful things in nature and spend a great deal of time looking for them. Just over a year ago I started taking photos with a Nikon D70 and quickly discovered that it was capable of rendering objects in a very wonderful way.  This camera perhaps more than any other has turned the art of photography into something that can be pursued by the masses.
Life is very different now.  I work a lot harder and seldom have time for television or goofing off.  I sometimes worry that I don’t spend enough time with Beth although she always says everything is fine when I ask her about it.  We are going to the beach for a week in a couple of days and have much more time to spend together when we go there.
I will miss Sparky and Malarky but someone has to stay home and look after things.
But life is different now and it is much more challenging.  There is so much to know about blogging that I haven’t even begun to figure out.  And there is even more about photography that is beyond my grasp.  Woodworking is a lot simpler in many ways but I still have not mastered it in any fashion.
So many challenges for a guy who will be ready for Social Security in a few years.  And now we are walking regularly and trying to practice good eating habits.
Sometimes I get up at odd hours during the night and try to work on the blogging stuff.
But then today I was writing Robin a note and started ticking off the things that are beautiful in this world.  Animals.  Flowers.  The sky.  Streams.  Grass blowing in the wind.
And I realized I could go on for a very long time just adding things to the list.
It’s a very long list.
And something just relaxed inside.  Something just said forget about all the things you are trying to do.  Focus on the beautiful.  Enjoy it.  Continue doing what you are doing.
But don’t let your lack of knowledge or skill get in the way.
Enjoy it while you are doing it.  Relax and count the blessings all around you.  Look in a child’s face and see the beauty that is there.  Watch the sun set and listen to the beautiful sounds of the river as it flows along its way.
There is no scheduled date when you need to have it all done.  That’s something you learned in school and it’s time to forget it now.   You are a different kind of student now.  No one is telling you to do any of this.  You want to do it.
Retirement is a transition into a new world.   Children and their grandparents share this world.  It’s not a place that revolves around plans or schedules.  It simply is.

It’s the world outside the box or the bottle that many of us live or used to live in.
It’s a nice place and I hope to learn more about it and then share what I have seen or learned with you.

  1. What a stunning and beautifully written post. I love this post. Do you know that when you emailed me and were telling all the beautiful things. I thought oh next time I can’t sleep or am stressed I am going to take 5 minutes and count all the beautiful things I see or have seen in the world. Then I thought of this would make a great meditation…then you said oh I have to go I just thought of a great idea of a blog and I KNEW it would be this. I am SO tickled to come here and find this post. YEAH!!!!! There is such a beautiful opening up here in your posts. I notice it just since I’ve been coming here. And I agree with you 100% as to the learning thing. the most important is to have fun…and yes the cyber learning is endless…it could consume us if we let it. I learn only what I need right now and then go take photographs…it will come in time if needed. A brilliant shining post David!!! YEAH and double YEAH!!!!
