The James River As Evening Falls/ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Day, like a weary pilgrim, had reached the western gate of heaven, and Evening stooped down to unloose the latchets of his sandal shoon.  ~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Hyperion

I went down to the river late last week just before dark and took some photos.  Nothing spectacular was happening. But that’s good because it helps me become a better photographer.  I need to squeeze a photo out of the environment in order to progress.

And so we have these photos.  How would you grade them?  I like the way the water looks.  It almost looks like “noise” but it’s not.  It’s stuff on the river and the fading light is reflecting it up to the lens.

Today is a rainy day here in Virginia.  The dog is barking outside the window.  And my legs are starting to act up.  I probably should go outside and do something as the sun tries to make a late comeback.

I don’t know what I will decide to do.  But it’s nice to have options.  Even if you feel unmotivated to do anything.

Nice job on the top image David.

Even though it’s stuff on the water, it would be great if the river were clear, more dramatic that way…

Lol. Yea. It almost looks like a chemical spill.

i think it creates a romantic setting (the “noise” in the second photo), like some golden star dusts (oh no! there goes my imagination:))… i’m not a pro, but if the greenery in the background is more vivid and clear (it looks hazy to me), i think the effect would be more dramatic (and the water less like a chemical spill :) )… as for the 1st photo, i love it :)

I really like these photos, especially the first one. Looks like a very peaceful place. Just one question: We have a James River that runs through North and South Dakota; this would not be the same river would it. I will look on a map myself, but that would be pretty cool if it was. If not they should not use duplicate names when naming rivers to avoid confusion. I do not think it could be the same river because Virginia and North Dakota are on opposite sides of the conntinental divide.
