Dieting For Dummies/ Entranced By Evita
How do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word that means Maria?
A flibbertijibbet! A will-o’-the wisp! A clown!
–The Sound of Music
Remember this song? Some nuns sing it about Julie Andrews. She just doesn’t want to adopt the program. Well I sing it about Evita.
How do you solve a problem like Evita?
Because every time i read one of her posts I end up throwing something out! First it was the rum!
And now it’s my teflon coated frying pan!
http://evolvingwellness.com/posts/160/green-teflon/
I really hope she doesn’t decide that dog hair is bad for us. Sparky would have a fit. Malarky would start reading the help wanted section of the newspaper. And I would have to sleep with one eye open.
But frying pans are not really the issue today. Because I am addicted to sugar. It’s in just about everything we eat and it’s very addicting. You go into withdrawal if you don’t have your fix after awhile.
And I can’t stand the idea of being addicted to anything. So now your blogging buddy is on a diet. And he’s also walking every day. This morning we walked for forty five minutes. That’s up fifty percent from yesterday. And it’s up 150 percent from the day before. Because way back then we were just walking from the living room to the kitchen and back again.
When I noticed that we might one day go in the medical books as a miracle of some sort. Because it looks from up here like we are going to have a baby.
Blogger this year. Reality show icon next year. Right after the cute show about the parents who got six kids at one time after they took fertility drugs.
When I read Evita she mesmerizes me. I’m not sure if I believe everything she says but it doesn’t seem to matter much. Because I was due for an overhaul and she is the only one I see who has a nice looking blog and seems ready to go there with me.
Because when you do stuff like this you need to become really motivated. It’s an extreme deal until new habits are established and pick up some of the load. And even then it’s not a piece of cake as we all know. Hhmmm cake. I have been carrying around a tube of Ritz diet crackers for those moments when death due to starvation seems imminent. And a bottle of diet Seven-Up.
Please don’t tell me they are going to kill me too Evita! I need something!
Sigh. Why am I doing this?
Because you can be a senior citizen who is healthy or at least trying to be or you can go the other way.
Choose. That’s why.
Grumps must move on. . . .have a nice morning.

I hate to tell you this but diet sodas are really bad for you. Drink water, green tea, juice anything but sodas of any kind. Sorry but you can’t pay me to drink a diet soda or any soda or eat anything that is diet. I am a grandmother of 6 grandchildren! I am slim and in good shape because I eat whole foods as raw as possible, within a balanced diet. I exercise and get plenty of sleep so I stay healthy. All you need to do is eat smaller potions of everything and exercise. Then you will have a healthy body and look good. Most people think I am twenty years younger than I am. when they find out I have teenage grandchildren they are shocked. So try my program and see if you like it better. Oh, don’t eat margarine it is the worst for your body, one step away from plastic. I hope you don’t mind me telling you this but I like you and I want the best for you.
Love and Blessings,
AngelBaby
No I don’t mind at all. I really don’t know much about this stuff and need information. What you said makes a lot of sense to me. I pretty much already left the 7-UP because I don’t like the taste of the stuff they put in it. I do like the green tea with honey so I am going to try that even though it has caffeine in it. Just plain water is difficult to drink all the time for some reason.
So thanks for your comment Angelbaby. Keep up the good work!
Okay David, so it was really and I mean really hard to get past the second paragraph and read this as I could not stop laughing. Seriously you gave me the best laughing fit I’ve had probably in weeks
What you wrote is so cute, I am touched, inspired and humbled, truly!
David, I love what you are doing with your life, because most people I know in their 50’s, 60’s and on say things like “Oh it’s too late” and what a shame I think! Today 50 is mid-life and hence we still, at that age have so much living to do and how do we want to spend it, in aches and pains and on pills????
Every little bit helps and those little changes very quickly start to make a big difference.
I am a biology teacher by trade and so everything written is researched and posted with the reader’s best interest in mind. The products I review, if good, I use. The recipes are all plates from our table. There is no motive except to awaken and inspire more people and prevent the unnecessary suffering that is so common to our society.
I have once heard a person say (I should look up where I got this) “I want to live long and die quick” In today’s culture we have the opposite we have people living whether it be long or short but dying for years. There is no rule that says once a person hits some magic number they should be in pain and on pills - that is a figment of our society.
I cannot imagine getting to 40 or 50 or more and having to live out the next 30 to 50 years in pain and suffering. We retire after all to do what…wait for our death? No way - these should be the best years of your life!!! Your kids are all grown up, most things are paid off and hence a time for you to enjoy your life, perhaps travel, perhaps write and take beautiful photographs!
David - truly I am so proud of you for making these changes in your life and again I am so honored that I could be of help.
P.S. I have good news for you…dog hair is not bad for you (unless of course you have an allergy to it) so good news Sparky can stay
In fact research claims that people with pets are happier and live out more fulfilled lives…ah, who can substitute that unconditional love?!
But I have to agree with AngelBaby where the diet sodas or just plain sodas are concerned…still getting to that post
Evitas last blog post..Vegetarian Recipe: Blackberry Almond Kamut
I wrote a long long comment in response to this post I love it so MUCH. But I decided that I will turn it into a post on my own blog at some point and put a link to this post of yours. As it was waaaay too long. I mean even too long for a post…so I will have to condense and edit. I will let you know when I post it. It may be awhile as I have one last Chaco Canyon post and then a couple of others that I have to do. But I wanted you to know that your post here inspired me to write GREAT things!!!
:) LOL. I’m laughing but it’s true.
ALSO, I am proud of you for taking back your life! GOOD for you! Absolutely keep going!
ALSO, I’ve read that soda of any kind can be full of heavy metals due to the carbonation eating into the metal can….heavy metals have been attributed to everything from thyroid dysfunction to Alzheimer’s. Drink filtered WATER, if it is blah tasting put some lemon or lime in it. Go to a health food store and buy organic lemon or lime juice in a bottle that keeps in the fridge — it has no preservatives. If you’ve not been to healthfood store you will probably find it interesting and get ideas for healthy snacks and drinks as well. While you are there check out: SWEET LEAF (brand) - “STEVIA”. Buy the liquid in the brown glass bottle and use it for sweetening your lemon/lime drink. It’s really good and is all natural in that it is a plant that originated in the rain forests of South America. It has no chemicals in it and helps regulate blood sugar as well as fight candida, which sugar feeds. Often going off sugar is hard because we’ve developed a high volume of candida (bad bacteria) in our intestines from poor diet…and we no longer have enough good bacteria. AND when we go off sugar our bodies feel the candida starving, which makes us crave more sugar. But if you can slowly ween off sugar you will no longer crave it. In fact it will eventually make you feel awful when you eat it. Here are a couple of good health sites:

I too am noticing EVITA and am going to start checking out her site some more.
Take care of yourself and LIVE!!!
