American Idol/ Brooke Survives/ Jesus Doesn’t Save Carly

I am sorry we are being overrun with American Idol stuff but we are getting near the end and things are heating up. I started blogging because of AI and Jordin Sparks. They and she convinced me I needed a creative outlet. You need one too if you haven’t found one. It doesn’t have to be blogging.

You could paint faces on rocks and then throw them out into a lake. Then when things warm up you could swim out and practice diving until you find them all. I used to do that but not recently. I pass it along to younger readers who happen to enjoy both rock painting and diving.

So Brooke who managed to try to sing her song twice managed to avoid the hot seat while Syesha who “brought the house down” took a trip to the stool.

What is going on? If she had gone home there would be a lot of seriously upset people out there today. Oh wait. There ARE a lot of seriously upset people out there because CARLY went home after singing a dynamite rendition of Jesus Christ Superstar.

We are sorry to see you go Carly. Carly Simon has always been a favorite of mine. You mother made a wise choice in the middle of trying circumstances.

Brooke needs to go home. Personally I think she WANTS to go home. She doesn’t seem to have much confidence and the rigors of life as an American Idol (See prior post and video of Jordin on the move) would probably overwhelm her.

The show overwhelms her. Something is going on with that girl.

Maybe I’m wrong.

Maybe on her way to rehearsal this weekend her Guardian Angel will appear to her and help her out.

“Brooke. Hear me. The next time you sing live in front of millions of people you will remember your words. And, because you have always been a good girl, you will sing like Fergie.”

“Go out and buy some leather pants. And practice doing cartwheels because I am blessing you right now. Remember Cinderella? I was there. “

It could happen. And I am ready for it to happen. Because when Fergie did it with Heart it was hands down the greatest moment in AI history.

Every future contestant should start practicing singing and doing ONE HAND cartwheels WHILE you are singing right now.

And forget the gym shorts. Unless they are made out of leather.

It will take that kind of miracle for Brooke to remain in this thing much longer. And Brooke please don’t cry so much during the show. Who do you think you are? Jordin?

Sorry Jordin. Just a little joke :)

Who Can Handle Winning American Idol?

I think this is worth thinking about at this stage of the game when America starts voting for the next American Idol winner. Who can handle the rigors of the job? Because as this video demonstrates it is a lot of work being the American Idol. And you have to be UP a lot. I’m not just talking about being up as in “Out of the bed and running around”. I mean that you have to be cheerful and outgoing and excited about meeting strangers all day long. You need to be confident. And you have to be willing to work your butt off for long periods of time.

And you can do all of this and still have problems. Jordin talks on this video about going on tour with Alesha Keys. And now in spite of all her hard work she has had a setback. I feel confident that she will overcome it and prevail but what about the next American Idol? Look at the six contestants and imagine them out there. Who can do the things we see Jordin doing on this video? * *

And BTW I am very impressed with Jordin and the way she is dealing with her new found fame. It hasn’t changed her a bit. She does talk about how “crazy” it is to be famous. She can’t even go out in public without total strangers inviting themselves into her life. I would be going around in a total disguise after about a week. But she is still her cheerful self although she acknowledges here that she will “run for the car” if she needs to be someplace and doesn’t have time to chat. Randy used to say that Jordin “at eighteen” impressed him with her singing ALL the time.

But I also find the way she is handling herself now to be very, very impressive for an eighteen year old. Hopefully the next American Idol has been thinking about this and asking himself or herself some honest questions. Because the road to success in this business is not easy. We just see the finished product most of the time. And that’s why this video has a charm of its own. 2436702290_2341189b3e Who Can Handle Winning American Idol? ***

American Idol/ April 22

Syesha was the first to perform this evening singing One Rockin Road. She had a miscue on start and a few pitch problems but otherwise did very well. It was probably her best performance and she seemed happy that they competition had moved towards Broadway. This is probably her niche as they say.

Jason sang Memory and put his heart into it. But it was not good. Some of these songs are done a grave injustice when they cut them up so they will fit between the commercials. And this is one of those songs. Also he was off in the lower register. David could have done this song.

Brooke White sang You Must Love Me and had a very unfortunate brain lapse at the beginning. But she got it together and sang well. I really am starting to think she wants to go home. Or she has no confidence. This is one difficult to figure out contestant.

David A. sang Think of Me and it made Beth cry. Neither one of us knew the song but he made it his own. Randy called this one. It was the performance of the night.

Carly sang Jesus Christ Superstar and did a very nice job with it. She put the big voice into it and energized it with her performance.

David C sang Music of the Night and pulled it off. Once again it is difficult though to hear this music cut off in midsong. It’s like having someone wake you up just as you are getting to sleep and starting to have a wonderful dream.

This choice was a big departure from style and David showed us that he really can sing and is not just a rock guy.

The two Davids finished one and two.

It seems like Brooke will be going home. Or maybe Jason. Eventually we will get down to the two Davids. It will be very interesting to see those two go head to head. David A seems to be slightly ahead in the voting but David C is the more mature performer. He is more interesting to watch and the better entertainer. Once the other voting blocks go away he will probably move ahead in the voting.
