American Idol Rundown
Table of contents for American Idol
Someone said the AI gang butchered the Beatles. I don’t know about that but they didn’t do them any favors for sure. Here is the word on last night’s performances based on my opinion and also (but more importantly) the thoughts of my Beth who is a rocking guitar slinging babe from back when the Beatles were all alive and singing songs.
Amanda O sang Back in the USSR. She should be there because she was pitchy and too thrilled with herself. The Ruskies would solve that problem in about two minutes. Then they would put her to work conceiving little communists and baking bread out of buckwheat and ground up tree bark.
Kristy L Cook sang You’ve Got to Hide Your Love Away and did better but that’s not saying much. Then she thrilled the audience by stating to thirty million people that she was willing to do unspeakable things to Simon. I say she should stay based on this statement until the final four.
David A sang The Long and Winding Road. He proved he can sing more than one song. Also he can remember the words to a song. He’s got a good voice. But he does this annoying thing with his tongue while he is singing. He needs to stop doing that or he’s going down.
Michael J sang A Day in the Life and tried to compress it into ninety seconds. He messed up the lyrics and was slightly off key through most of the song. At this point he makes us yearn for Ace. And we didn’t like Ace very much.
Brooke W sang Here Comes the Sun and did a fair job. She performs better when she has something to play while she is trying to sing. A piano or a guitar will be there next time if there is a next time.
David C sang Day Tripper and made it work except for the Peter Frampton stuff. We did notice that he couldn’t play the riff and sing the lyrics at the same time. So why does he need the guitar? What’s he hiding? I feel like he probably used a pacifier until he was six years old and basically is afraid to stand up there along and face the world.
Carly S sand Blackbird and was pitch perfect as well as adding a new twist to an old ballad. However she could have been a little more intense in the choruses and put some distance between herself and the rest of the field.
Jason C sang Michelle and did a nice job. Beth loves him. He’s “sweet and his innocence comes through” when he sings. His French was perfect. Let’s face it. The little guy was good. I hope he and his hair do live happily ever after.
Syesha M sang Yesterday and I didn’t have to grab my head and fall on the floor. We didn’t like the falsetto run but she looks amazing according to Beth and Paula. At least she is heading in the right direction unlike some of the other contestants who started well but have fallen down since then.
Chikezie E sang I’ve Just Seen a Face and started off nice and slow. He knows how to build a song well but this week he insisted on killing it by playing a harmonica. “Why?” Chikezie. Who put you up to it? Don’t listen to them again. They are not your friend.
Ramiele M sang I Should Have Known Better. This should have been Chikezie’s song because he should have known better than to play that harmonica. She’s good but she should lose that hat. Personally I would like to see another side of her that isn’t so sweet. Can we get Debbie Harry to come down and talk with her?
That’s it for another week Idol fans. It was a painful episode for those of us who love the Beatles. I am missing Jordin Sparks. They keep saying how this is the best group yet.
That’s a joke. There is no Kelly Clarkson, Jordin Sparks or Carrie Underwood in this group.
Update: Well Amanda is no longer with us. Her comments after she sang on Tuesday could not have helped her. Kristy’s comments on the other hand were great and probably saved her and put her on the eventual tour. Chikezie must be doing really well because his harmonica didn’t get him in the bottom three. And Carly was in the bottom three! A big surprise there. But she really needs to rock next week. Maybe she has been spending too much time with Kristy. Passivity is not the name of the game on AI. And finally Beth wants everyone to know that she is not responsible for my idiot comments and she resigns from our AI review staff.
We are all sad to see her go.

Thanks for the run down on American Idol, David. I guess the trend is to not appreciate the Beatles right now. They’ll fall back in favor. It’ll just take a while.
