I have added some topics to this blog recently. And the question comes up as it has in the past “What is this blog about?”. It’s so important to be focused when you produce a blog because readers need to know what’s happening in order to make decisions about the use of their valuable time.
And it may not always be apparent so I would like to share with you what I am trying to do. It’s really very simple. And it encompasses the use of photos and video, short stories and poetry and discussions about blogging.
Virginia Breeze is about living peacefully and happily in a complex world when you are no longer young. That’s what I am trying to do and if I can share my ideas and experiences with others maybe it will be helpful or at least entertaining in some way. Because let’s face it. If we live long enough we are going to be dealing with the world of senior citizens. And I feel like there is this stereotype out there about them. Us. Me. Whoever.
And becoming a senior is really not something to dread. I hear it all the time. People bemoan the fact that they have a birthday. The big FOUR O and so forth. Well one of these days I am going to be facing the big SIX O and I admit that it will be a little tester. But there are cool things about getting older and I hope I can portray them here. It is a time when responsibilities hopefully let up a little bit in the child raising department. And even if they don’t it’s a time when our bodies start sending us different signals about how to respond to the demands we face. Sometimes we find we are better able to relate to children and teenagers in fact!
We mellow. Hopefully. And we spend more time dealing with things that are often neglected earlier in life. Like watching the sun set or come up in the morning. Or writing a poem. Going over the past in a way that makes more sense and then writing about it. Joking about the way our minds or bodies change.
These are just a few examples. And I am sure you have some ideas that you could add to the list. And I hope you will.
I can say without a doubt that this is the best time of my life so far. Isn’t that encouraging? I hope so. And I hope it will be (or is) for you too. We are headed in a good direction even when we become very old and have to deal with very difficult problems at the very last. I believe it is true. I don’t know that I will always feel that way. But I have faith that there is a force out here that helps people when they become really old. Maybe it’s a near death kind of experience that goes on for several years. I don’t know.
That’s all. We are not doing War And Peace here as everybody knows. We are just exploring a few things and enjoying life. There are so many different ways to go in this world. It pays to try and find a good path.
And to share directions as you go down the road in this world beyond midlife.

WOW! Oh my God, what a beautiful piece (peace).
You ought to submit this to some magazines; it is SOOOOOOO important and well written! I’ve pasted a couple of magazine links below but it could also go in health magazines for all ages. You are AMAZING David, after reading this post I have decided to do a post that I’ve been thinking about doing for awhile now. I’ll let you know if I do it.
I think I told you that I’m 54 and it is so far the MOST powerful and amazing time of my life. That says a lot considering all the things I’ve done in my life. My dreams are even bigger and I feel MORE alive than ever. I love the depth of thought I have and the clarity of insight on things that were once far beyond my grasp. It’s amazing how that can work.
I am so excited about your writing. I think the number one thing (of many things) is that you inspire me (everyone) to REALLY be myself And I like that. You come across as, “This is who I am and that’s that!” And yet you do it in a loving, compassionate and authentic way. It’s so healthy for those of us reading this….it’s a healthy influence in the world….period
Thank you SO much for sharing. It is changing my life by reinforcing what is already in me. Bless you, Robin
PS I just searched baby boomer magazines, fifty plus magazines, half decade, etc. There are many more I’m sure. I’m not personally familiar with these but it’s just an idea.

Thank you Robin. It really is about finding a place where something you write will be read isn’t it? This post was done back in February and probably a few people read it. My father told me decades ago that i should write and publish something. And I have never done it. I am sure there is a huge negative block of nothing that is keeping me from doing it. I will have to work on that.
Thankfully I can blog. I don’t have to ask anyone about it. Just write and then write some more. Try to improve and learn things. I really need to read YOUR book as a step in a good direction. Then you see I will know someone dare I say have a friend who has published a book. Now we are a good step closer. See? And in the meantime every day WRITE. Continue to learn and explore this wonderful new universe of the imagination. I want to send you a link to something that is very good.
