One of the most useful things about my Wordpress.com blog besides the fact that it offers shelter if this one should crash and burn again is the fact that it has a My Comments function. I have recently dialed into that fact and am now going there often to review comments made in the past and see if there are any responses. So maybe I will do a better job of conversing with my blogging buddies.
Why did it take so long? You all must remember who you are dealing with here. One fifty something year old guy on various medications for RLS. Restless Legs Disorder. What is RLS like for those of you who have no idea what I am talking about? Well, you know how your leg feels sometimes when it “falls asleep”? The circulation is cut off and you try to stand up only to fall down again? It’s not that feeling. It’s the feeling you get when your leg starts to come back into circulation. Not exactly but that’s the best way I can describe it. And it doesn’t go away in a minute or less. It keeps coming back in waves that increase in intensity unless you somehow neutralize the beast.
I recently discovered something that really does help and may be helpful for some.
First you need one of those big back vibrators that have the two knobs on them that screw on and off. Many folks have tried using these with varying degrees of success over the years. RLS is a very crafty opponent and will find a way around this sort of thing. But here’s the thing. The bottom of the feet are different. You can find a connection with different parts of the body through the bottom of the feet. So if you press the sole of your foot onto this thing it sends intense vibrations up through the leg and neutralizes the RLS gremlins. In my case if you successful stymie it in one leg it also seems to help the other leg. I have no idea if this is the same for anyone else.
Have someone hold it for you and try it out in a comfortable place. Liike your bed for instance. Wouldn’t it be wonderful to just stretch out and relax without having to jump up every five minutes and take a walk? I’m not suggesting everyone throw away their medications. And I haven’t tried this out during a full blow attack because I haven’t stopped taking meds and don’t have them. But one thing that really makes RLS users uncomfortable sometimes is the length of time it takes various medications to work. It can take Requip two or three hours to settle down a severe attack. Hopefully this idea will help relieve the situation during that time. And it may help some with milder cases of RLS to stay away from meds.
It only took me six years to figure this one out. But that’s alright. Better late than never right? Happy Christmas. Dont’ forget to vote for me in the post below. RSS HUGGER!
