Hot Photo Editor

Let’s say that you’ve written an article on “Red Apples Grown in Oregon” but in the article, you’ve included the phrase “green apple orchards” and a few sentences later “green apples are primarily grown in Seattle Washington” – a few weeks after publishing this article, you notice that twenty visitors have come to your site on variations of the phrase “green apple orchards in Washington D.C.” – now you know that there are people looking for information on green apple orchards in Washington D.C. Google was sending these visitors to your site by mistake. Your task is to make sure the next time *is not* by mistake. —Ryan Caldwell

I really have been enjoying reading Performancing lately and go back often to review. This little suggestion stuck pretty well the first time however and I will be using it a lot. In fact it stuck like crazy glue when I saw this keyword phrase in my stats this morning. Now here’s a phrase that deserves further elaboration. HOT PHOTO EDITOR. Originally it was in a post as two separate words Google Hot Trends and Photo Editor. And that’s what it looks like sitting in my post on page one of Google under the search term somebody typed into the box. Because they were looking for a hot photo editor. Maybe they were looking for very popular photo editor like Picasa2. Or maybe they were looking for someone to help them arrange their photo collection and their lonely life. Who knows? But the point is that I now have taken up residence here and can start a small town if I want to invest some time in it. Do I want to? Well first I need to figure out how many searches for this term will be done every day. If it’s one I might not bother with it. But if it’s twenty we are going to be bringing in the heavy equipment.

And to figure that out I can use this fairly simple Wordtracker program. Or I can just write a post like this and see what happens. I know some of you don’t care about SEO and Lorelle told me to forget about it and just concentrate on content. But lot’s of folks do enjoy working with this stuff and I may be one of them. Increasing search engine traffic is the name of the game if you want more readers. And good content can go unnoticed if it is ignored.

So you might want to go find yourself a hot something or other this Christmas. I will let you know how mine works out. Hopefully I won’t get in trouble with my number one hot girl. Because she’s the one I want to find under the Christmas tree in a few short weeks.

BTW, I’m just discovering this stuff so I may not know what I’m talking about quite yet. Or ever. Please comment if you feel the need to add something or correct something. But I am thinking that this keyword phrase is my Christmas gift to you and you and you. So if I find you have written an article about your favorite hot photo editor that’s fine. Success is all about giving. I plan to write one too as a matter of fact but wrote this first because its more interesting to me at this moment. I believe you write better if you catch your muse while she’s hot..

But it would be nice if you left a comment about it here! :)

Update: It would be nice if I could get Wordtracker to acknowledge that this keyword phrase exists. Then I could calculate how many times readers will view it. But Wordtracker isn’t helping much and I am waiting for them to respond the the inquiry I made this morning. I am probably doing something wrong but I would like to know what’s the deal.

Revisiting Martha Stewart and MySpoogle

Posted November 29th, 2007 by David and filed in Blogs or Posts

A few weeks ago I wrote a post about a hypothetical alliance between Google and MySpace. There were rumors about their merger flying around at the time. I don’t know what the status of this bad idea is currently. Maybe they read my post and called the whole thing off. Maybe they heard about MySpoogle and it spooked them. Maybe I have grandiose visions and should take more medication every morning.

Whatever the case I think that the name MySpoogle is a power packed keyword and should be taken off the domain market if it has not already been bought and stored in a safe somewhere. Probably the .org deal should go too. And all the other ones as well.

MySpoogle may not be the future of Google and MySpace. But I know that it has a future and a very good one. What would Martha Stewart do in a case like this? How about this…

MySpoogle For The Frugal. A Social Network dedicated to tightwads throughout the world. If you want to collect a check every month for playing on the internet this is your deal. Or…

Bugle With MySpoogle. A Social Network for brass horn players dedicated to waking everybody up in the morning. Every neighborhood should have a MySpoogle Bugler in case the power goes out. Or

MySpoogle And Mr. McDougal. A Social Network of Irish Pubs dedicated to drinking online with your friends. This one sounds really good to me. And then we have..

On The Moon With MySpoogle. A Social Network For Aliens Who Are Tired Of Getting Shot At By Lasers . These lasers of course are manned by US military personnel who grew up playing Doom and lots of other shooter games. They know what they are doing and the Aliens probably are ready to start social networking on the dark side of the moon. I have written about this before in Who Owns The Moon? And if we own it we should start charging the little green guys rent.

So you see the future belongs to those who act quickly and I’m pretty sure none of these names have been taken. Does Darren Rowse give you information like this that can make you millions overnight? I don’t think so. Do I take enough medication in the morning? Probably not. So maybe I will go take some more right now.

Cheers everybody! And you better hurry. One of those ideas is going off the market pretty soon.

Why I Enjoy Writing

Posted November 29th, 2007 by David and filed in Blogs or Posts

Isn’t it easier writing for everyone than writing to someone? It is for me but maybe not for you. It’s a lot easier for me to share lots of things with the world. I immediately become cautious when I am dealing with most other people. It constrains me and takes away from what I would like to say. I’m listening and trying to figure out what is going on with the other person. And so many sensations are coming in it usually confuses me. I’m not very good at it. I would make a very lousy salesman. But it doesn’t mean I don’t care.

That’s just the way things have shaken out over the past 54 years. I spent a lot of time over those years trying to deal with depression. And I’m not going to dwell on that now because life is so much better. This blog is a celebration of life and an attempt to share good things with others. Some might disagree. But that’s probably because they know me personally. And they have experienced the other me who has difficulty with one on one relationships.

Maybe that’s why there are few comments here. I don’t blame people for not commenting. It used to bother me but it doesn’t anymore. I enjoy being creative and that may just be what keeps me motivated around here to continue blogging. People have been writing books for centuries and they didn’t expect someone to pop up in the window every day and comment about what they had written the day before.

I have a few readers who have somehow managed to stick around for awhile. Bernie is busy with basketball. Ron is in South America (again). Truddle is absorbed in events surrounding her children. And Helena is pursuing her busy and interesting life over in jolly old England. I love them all. I really do. I am very fond of them. But they probably don’t know that. Because I’m very different one on one as I said. And I don’t want to dwell on it. But if any or all of them decided they have had enough of me tomorrow I wouldn’t blame them a bit.

What I have to give it pretty much in this blog. Maybe someday I will go down memory lane and talk about a few things that have resulted in the person who is writing this. But not during the holidays!! I see my two older children who live here in Virginia maybe four or five times per year. That isn’t a lot is it? But that will give you an idea of what I’m talking about. Not a happy situation. And I’m sure some are saying “What’s your problem? Why don’t you just try?”

And my answer is “Sorry but I do try”. I’m just not very good at it.

And finally I think it is unfair of me to have a blog about celebrating life without being clear that everything is far from perfect down the end of this road. I don’t need to dwell on it. But life is a messy affair and I would get very tired of reading a blog everyday that made it sound like things are just perfect! I am just nearly perfect! NOT.

So there! Now can we get back to the celebration?
