I Talk With My Lobster
Table of contents for Beach Aquarium
I had a conversation with my friend Larry The Lobster this morning. I was feeling confused. I said, “Larry I don’t understand why I spend so much time worrying about this blog. It’s not really important to anybody. My wife wants me to pull a little switch and put it out of its misery. The thing is, Larry, it’s a lot like you. It’s my friend and it almost seems like it lives in the bottom of a tank of water waiting for someone to look at it for about a minute.
After that you just wait until it happens again. And Larry just looked at me for the longest time. And finally, he said “Look, guy, it’s not so bad being in my position or yours. Look at the bright side. Sometimes when they bend over and look at me they smile. Or they say a few words. They may give my glass a friendly tap. But it’s not like we live out there.
He got kind of a worried expression at that point. “Out where? Larry ” I really wanted to know what he was thinking at this point. He has a lot of time to think and I was hoping he could come up with a few pearls of wisdom.
“Red Lobster” he said and threw in a few epithets for good measure. “Don’t snap at me you pea brained crustacean” I said. You can’t let him get away with impertinent behavior or he might try to snap your head off. But he had a point. Neither one of us were worried about that kind of a problem. He lives in a museum and gets the best of care. I live in a nice home and don’t worry too much about strange creatures with saucer like eyes appearing at my bedroom window late at night. Most of the time.
Larry is kind of an introverted lobster and he didn’t have much more to say but I understood his point. A blogger basically has to wait for someone to visit him. And sometimes people have other things to do. Sometimes the place is closed and nobody is around. I wonder what Larry does when everyone has gone home and he is alone with the other sea creatures each in their separate tanks. Does he wish they were all together on the ocean floor?
Probably not. Bad things can happen down there. I think he likes having his own tank. And I like having mine, too. I don’t need to be surrounded by a school of shimmering minnows. And I don’t need thousands of visitors. I just need friends like Larry. And a good support staff to keep things running smoothly. And some visitors. If no one taps on your tank once in awhile you tend to forget where you are and what’s going on.
Here’s a photo of Larry telling me to stop thinking about blogging and relax.

I am thinking that Larry is very smart!
Do you think so? I hope he’s not too smart. He may decide to start his own blog and then he will clam up and stop sharing all his wonderful words of wisdom.
