Saturday Morning Rain

We really need rain here in Virginia so it’s good to see it raining outside. Beth tells me it is supposed to clear up later so maybe there will still be a chance to get out and take some photos. I have gone to the well so many times for just one more photo that it is very dry. But that has been a good thing. It has made me look again at some things I didn’t think were promising. And it helped me think about this blog. What direction should it go? I feel better about that now. Hopefully it will be more interesting for my readers as well.

And hopefully you will share some of your ideas! Or your photos! I recently displayed someones photo and it was a smashing success. JaxNative put together a wonderful collage of Taylor Hicks. It was made up of photos of Taylor taken by his devoted fans all over the nation. And it also identified some of the places he had been and performed.

A framed copy was given to Taylor and I read that a photo was taken of him signing it. I am not making this up! There is a photo out there somewhere.

    Since you asked… :)

The vertical with the sun and surfers has too much blank space in the middle. I don’t think you need to keep the sun and clouds in there. I’d bring it in closer and let the reflection speak for itself. Just my 2 cents… Ron.

Thanks, Ron. I was trying to do something different. I already have so many photos like you describe in here. I needed a change! Maybe it’s not good. But it’s different! I am always trying to change things here and make this blog better. Sometimes I don’t succeed. But if it is going to get better I have to try!

I am always one for trying something different… and I do like the sunset picture… not that I have a trained eye or anything .. but there is just something about that picture that I like… I think maybe the photo aligned to the left of the post would help though… but who am I to judge

I don’t think your blog needs to be different David — keep it real - keep it you … just my two cents!

Thanks Truddle. I appreciate it. We all have different ideas here. Ron has helped me out a great deal and I value his advice. But he knows I’m not always going to go along with it even though he’s a professional photographer and I’m a novice playing with a camera.
It’s like we are having a classroom discussion but the teacher doesn’t have to be followed. It’s more democratic. Maybe it’s more like a charter school. I wish we could have more discussions like this.

Don’t get me wrong - I in no way was knocking Ron’s comments - only expressing my own opinion on the photo. I love Ron’s photography, he is very talented and I visit his blog often. In fact that is how I found yours. Any way just wanted to clarify that :-)

I know. It’s difficult to share opinions about photos. I have seen how things easily get bent out of shape. But it is so enjoyable to share how we feel about this art form. So we take risks. And this has nothing to do with you, me or Ron. Except that every time I open my mouth I worry about offending someone so that they stay away.

David… you want to have some fun try putting your images on a critique forum, talk about bent out of shape, it’s like a train wreck sometimes. My opinion is every photo taken is wonderful to someone so I try not to give my opinion to much. Technically speaking I agree with Ron, but if that is what your were after than it’s perfect. So you are both right, nice work.

Thanks, Bernie. It just amazes me that there’s a place where I can put up my photos and people will actually come and look at them. I got some more pics today and had lots of fun getting them, too.
