The Boy Scout

The “Falling Asleep Introvert” writes……

There once was a boy scout who tried to build a small but nevertheless real nuclear reactor in his backyard. There were no merit badges awarded for doing this at the time. It was something he thought of on his own.

And he was doing pretty well until he started to glow in the dark. You might want to save this story for a special time. It could be a way to pass the time when the electricity goes out! Print it up and put it with the flashlights and the tiny battery operated television you keep for such occasions.

My own technology related goals are much more mundane than this. Every time the telephone rings my wireless home network goes off line. This started a few weeks ago when I bought a Linksys booster to increase the signal to this computer. My neighbors signal is about twice as strong as the one I need which is downstairs behind a few walls and a door. There are only a couple of windows (I guess) and space between my neighbor’s signal and me. I would tell you the name of his signal because it is a little amusing. But that wouldn’t be nice and he is my neighbor. I don’t want someone focusing in on it from half way round the world. Or even from down the street.

So now every time the phone rings (and it rings a lot) I have to stop working on the internet. It’s very frustrating. I tried looking for an answer by googling a few things but didn’t even manage a not so close answer. It doesn’t make any sense. I increase the signal strength in the house and now the signal is demolished every time the phone rings.

Hopefully, someone will read this who has insights about this sort of thing and feels like sharing!

Do boy scouts get merit badges these days for helping out old guys with their computers? I wouldn’t mind meeting somebody like that! So long as he doesn’t start to glow once he is indoors.

And one final thing before the lights go out. Somebody might want to know what this business is about the “falling asleep introvert” writes…

It’s very simple. I was looking at the stats and someone found this blog by typing these three words into Google. So I tried it and, basically, I own this neck of the search engine woods. Maybe that’s a slight exaggeration but number four and number seven are about this little essay that readers continue to discover called Men Are From Mars and Women Believe It.

So I started to think about it and maybe Google in all its wisdom has come up with three words that just about sum up this blog and its author. Falling Asleep Introvert will be seeing you later…

Update: Because the next “little experiment” is always just around the corner I rebuilt the sitemap after writing this post and within sixty seconds Falling Asleep Introvert was number three. I’m not sure this means anything. How many folks are going to type this combination of words into their Google Search Engine? If you could get the same results with falling asleep we might have something useful in our quest to find a sixth reader.

I just like the phrase. It sums up two of my major challenges in life. I would love to be able to read without falling asleep all the time. And I would also enjoy being more extroverted in public. In some sense I hide behind my camera. Or I watch people without actually engaging them. Some of you who are introverts may understand what I am talking about. I hope so. Because I AM the Optimistic Falling Asleep Introvert. And I bid you good evening and good night.
