Wordpress.org VS. Wordpress.com

When I began blogging several months ago I started two blogs. I mess around with Live Journal and MySpace but the two solid efforts were both here. Awhile back the files became too large to simply export and import from one blog to the other. So I have been copying and pasting material into the .org blog. And it’s not much fun. Sometimes things don’t get transferred the way they should. Is this a good way to start out blogging at Wordpress? The next few weeks will tell the story. If Wordpress.com goes flat and Wordpress.org doesn’t inflate I guess we will know the answer. But maybe somebody with more talent could do it. So it’s not the definitive answer. It’s just an answer.

I wasn’t sure when I started that I could operate a blog with a domain and all the things that are available out there. But it really isn’t too difficult. Recently I found some software that actually will update Wordpress when they come out with new models and security fixes. Just a few clicks and you’re done.

So what’s the point of continuing with two blogs? Especially when I have considered the option of shutting both down and posting on Flickr. The problem is that the .com blog is doing much better than the .org blog. Why? I don’t know. Probably because that one is updated first most of the time. Readers latch onto it first. This one gets what is left over plus some traffic from MyBlogLog and Blog Catalog.

So I’m going to try another little experiment this week. Clearly this .org blog should be the ongoing enterprise. It has more potential in the long run. So I’m going to concentrate on it for the next week. New posts will be here. Hopefully readers (all five of them) will come here to WWW.davidnotes.com for further posts. Everything is pretty much the same here. Nothing will be missed. If there are any problems please let me know.

If anyone would like to help out by linking to this post and this blog it would certainly help out. Writing about what I’m trying to do would be helpful if you feel the idea has merit. Sending it up to someone with a lot of readers would pretty much guarantee the transition happens. I don’t ever like to ask for anything so you might want to save this part. It might be valuable someday. And this is the only place anyone will ever see it.

I have written about and encouraged many bloggers here. I’m not aware that anyone has written about this blog. The only links I have gotten were in response to encouraging posts I wrote after surfing around and finding something I liked. And I was glad to do it because some of them deserved it. But now is the time for this blog. It needs the love.
