I went by Technorati and noticed I’m one of the top four hundred thousand blogs in the world. Can you imagine? Four hundred thousand is not that big a number. Let’s say you have a can with a thousand peanuts in it. And you have just four hundred of those cans. That’s just about all that stands between me and the number one position in the world of blogs. I could probably eat that many nuts in a few months! I would need some sort of surgery if I did but it’s possible. This blogging adventure is really starting to blast off into the tops of some of the trees around here.
Up, up where the squirrels live. I better watch out. We know what squirrels like and they have sharp teeth. At least the two in the front look sharp. Squirrels are some of my favorite critters. They are so cool. They just seem so relaxed even when you are about to run over them in your car.
Except I have never seen one run over and certainly I have never run over one. Beth has a fit every time they run across the road. She doesn’t understand that it is a game. The squirrel knows that there is a man driving the car who has issued a territorial challenge. There is an important question of who owns this space close to the bottom of his tree. He has already seen it paved over and painted with white lines. And now he is supposed to do what? Go around the road? He is surrounded by roads. It’s an impossible situation.
So the squirrel sees the man coming down the road in his car. And he sees the woman sitting next to him. And he knows in his complex squirrel brain that to divide is to conquer and he can create a schism between this man and this woman. He does it to Beth and me all the time. I drive right over him knowing that he’s having a good laugh underneath my car. Beth looks at me like I have just become a murderer. And the squirrel has won. It will be quite a while before we even venture out together again. And when we do I will take another route hoping to avoid further recriminations.
Although sometimes I have seen squirrels sleeping peacefully in the road. What’s that all about? Beth tries to imply that they might be dead. Such a silly girl. I love her dearly but she does have quite an imagination. Squirrels need a lot of sleep because they use up a lot of energy playing their favorite game. Sometimes they will simply drop and catch a few winks in the middle of the road. They know they are in no danger. They look so relaxed.
I wish I could sleep like that.
Update: I’m up to the top 125 K blogs now!
Update2: 95K !!
