Blogging Growth
Posted by davidlind on September 4th, 2007
Since I started blogging a couple of months ago I have used my own photos. Even my photos of Taylor Hicks were taken by me when he came to town. And believe me it was interesting taking pictures of him with my SRL camera and a high powered lens. I am just an innocent regarding these things and was doing fine while just hanging back in the middle of the crowd with Beth. But then I decided to wander up towards the stage and get a really good close up. I got greedy in other words. I had no idea you can’t use a lens that is longer than a credit card. So I got stopped and that was the end of that.
I’m kind of in the same predicament regarding other folks posts. I don’t know what’s going on most of the time. So I just depend on my own stuff or do a direct link to someone. But yesterday I found a couple of photos of Jordin and put them up. I have lost the link but I did put a message in the comments and will attribute them if someone lets me know.
All of this is leading up to this article I read about trackbacks that does a good job of explaining all this stuff. I want to start linking more to interesting content in other blogs instead of depending one hundred percent on my own creative impulses. I just don’t think I can continue writing and taking photos in my own little world all the time that will be interesting to others. It will still be my primary goal to do that. But not all the time. And having subjects that don’t come from me all the time may stimulate my creative impulses.
I mean when you are thinking about going out in the backyard and taking pictures of your dog and the woodshed it is time to rethink a few things. We are going to the Neptune Festival at Virginia Beach in a few weeks and that will be a great opportunity to do something. Oh, btw, take a look at the sand sculptures at Life In The Fast Lane (blogroll). I don’t know if these are the same folks who will be at the beach doing sculptures or not. But there will be plenty of those done as part of a competition. From now until then, however, it would be nice to have a few really interesting posts like Mr Wigan and his art in the eye of a pin to go along with the life and times of an average guy who loves his wife and photography. And no we are not going to vote on whether A or B does more posting. Smile. We should all encourage creativity in ourselves and others. Besides, Mr Wigan was a very ordinary person with lots of problems until he figured out how to do miniature figures that he could inhale if he wasn’t careful! I may be on to something equally as amazing. And you, too. We just don’t know it yet. Back to the technical discussion.
I have a difficult time understanding all the RSS stuff. But trackbacks seem a little simpler. I probably could have used one when I linked to Life In the Fast Lane a couple of days ago. I certainly want to do what’s right and not get anybody mad at me. So before that happens I’m just letting everyone know what I am trying to do. And the author of this post on trackbacks offers to let those of us who travel in the slow lane on the internet practice on her post! That’s pretty generous in my book. I haven’t practiced on anybody since grade school and I’m hoping this episode will give me a momentary, happy memory if not a full fledged flashback.
So here goes…. The name of the blog is optiniche and its about helping folks to optimize, monetize and market their area of interest.

When I first started working on building my own site, I picked up the Visual Quick-start guide to Wordpress and Creating Web Pages for dummies. They helped a lot!
