It can take a long time to establish a new home in the heart and mind. I moved to Virginia in 1975 . It’s a much different place from old New England. But there were opportunities there at the time and so we packed our bags and left. There is a lot of that going on in America. And it helps us undertstand folks who have grown up with different customs and different history lessons.
But it can take years to really acclimate to changes of this magnitude. Virginia has always been good to us but it was not until I met Beth that it became my home. I am a southerner now. Going back to Cape Cod made me realize that it has no hold on me. My children and grandchildren are all southerners. And I have joined them for good.
Here is one of my favorite pictures of Virginia Beach. It is a picture of our home.
