Create Your Own Photo Blog Chapter 2
Table of contents for Blogs I Enjoy
Let’s launch right in to the second chapter of this book, shall we? I’m thinking that you might want to pick up a copy for yourself, actually. Amazon will be happy to ship it to you.
A photo blog is “a piece of dynamic art.” Cool. What’s that? It means that it can and does change very often. I have to keep myself from changing the blog template at least once per week. But I would still have really poor one if I didn’t risk upsetting everything. Pictures change. I took one photo down and sent it to Ron Dubin on the west coast. He fixed it and sent it back to the east coast. Now it’s back in the blog. Stuff like that.
Blog style is a combination of Layout, design and photography. These let the viewer know what the author of the blog is all about. We have examples. And the author liked writing this chapter best because she is going to share the coolest examples of photo blogging on the web.
Style can be “fun and whimsical” like it is found in Carol’s Little World….she likes to manipulate photos and use high speed film. Brandon Hoover of the “wondrous javajive is an American living on the island of Java, Indonesia”. Oh, oh. She’s right. It is a wondrous blog. And amazing. I love it. This goes to the top of my list when I remember where I put it. Great photos. Interesting commentary.
And now we go to the author, Catherine Jamieson’s, blog and it has the biggest photo I have ever seen on the front page. It’s magnificent. I don’t know how many times I have read that bloggers need to stay with their main themes in photos and writing but she says her personal style is “aimless”. It’s a “slice of life ” every day and whatever story she wants to tell. Your style will emerge over time as you find new, creative means of expression.
She really did enjoy herself in this chapter because it is long. So maybe I’ll look at the second part later and share.
For now, let’s just say that for not much money you can have an amazing hobby. Good cameras are not cheap but this book and a free community blog can lead to hours of fascinating work and discovery. I’m going to assume you already have the computer and an internet connection!
I will leave you with a link to a cool quote and picture by Catherine Jamieson.
