What is Your Bridge Rated?

Beth’s cousin came over tonight from the Eastern Shore. And she was telling us that there is a bridge over there that has a rating of 28. I was reading BFK Photography Visions of Southern Indiana last night and he was saying there is an important bridge spanning the Ohio River in his area that has a rating of 40. And the bridge that collapsed the other day had a rating of 50? Do you have a rickety old bridge nearby? Maybe they should have to post the rating next to the bridge. It would help people decide whether they ought to get out and pray before they drive across it.

I realize this sort of thing doesn’t happen very often. But my opinion is that it shouldn’t happen at all. Or maybe it should happen as often as a passenger jet loses both of its wings on a dometic flight. How often does a skyscraper in New York City fall over? The wind can get mighty strong at times. It seems like we have mastered certain engineering challenges in this country. Maybe every city or county ought to be required to fix all of its bridges before it builds another school or town hall.

And while they are at it maybe they can put deadbolt locks with keys on all the classroom doors to keep out the next maniac who wants to shoot up one of our schools. Nobody should have to jump out a classroom window to avoid being shot. And nobody should have to fall out of the sky in their automobile.

And that’s all I have to say about that. Just trying to make a constructive suggestion or two.
