Restless Legs and Taking Naps
Table of contents for Restless Legs Syndrome
One of the nice things about getting older is you don’t need an excuse to take a nap. At least, I don’t need an excuse. It’s in my contract. Unfortunately, it’s not a simple matter to lie down and doze off if you have RLS. And you are risking an attack if you try. In my experience the little nest of whatevers don’t dive in when you are busy doing something. They especially don’t like computers for some reason. And for that reason I move in the direction of one when I start to fade.
Once resting becomes inevitable however I have found a good way to improve the situation and will pass it on to my RLS friends. Maybe it will help somebody, who knows? Here tis. Don’t move your legs once you hit the bed. Get in a comfortable position before the RLS strikes. Focus on breathing. And don’t move your legs even an inch. If I move them even slightly it is as if a lock has clicked open.
How does his help everybody else who is reading this blog? I don’t know. Maybe if you try this technique you can sleep more soundly. Or, maybe avoid waking someone else up. Maybe it’s useless information. But since five to ten percent of the population has or will experience RLS at some point you might want to file it away. Or, just take a moment to be thankful you don’t have it. You really don’t know how lucky you are.
