Early Morning at the Beach

I can’t tell you how incredibly nonintuitive Windows Vista is at this point in time. You click on one of your programs and it asks you if you want to do that. Because I guess someone else could be using your computer and they would fess up if Vista asked them this question. “Oh boy, you got me this time Vista, where do I go to confess?” I needed a dial up connection last evening and called AOL . They are not champs either. For fifteen minutes I sparred with an utterly patient yet clueless computer trying to get a telephone number. It’s as if AOL went out and hired Mumbles the Clown who has several alcohol related problems to talk to all its customers. In fact, that would probably have been a better choice. So finally I got to talk to a real person. Instead of giving me a Virginia Beach number to call she gave me another number! This one, thankfully, did not have Computer Chip on the other end. In fact, it didn’t have anything on the other end. It was a wrong number. So then I called my dear father-in-law who uses his dial up connection here and got the numbers. But after I dialed in Vista told me it couldn’t find the right path and I never did get on AOL. I enrolled in the NetZero program instead and was online in five minutes. But after spending the night with Vista NetZero was turning into “one of them” this morning and it took awhile to get it to work. Yahoo, Windows Vista, AOL and HP are all fighting for control of this neighborhood while Foxfire stands patiently aside and waits to help.

Anyway, I got out to take some pictures. The sky was gray and the sunrise a nonevent which was good because I need to find other subjects. As Ron Dubin told me “Shoot everything”. So with my untrained but semi intuitive eye I went out among the early morning crowd, the surfers and fishermen, and looked for patterns or interesting scenes. I also downloaded Googles Picasa picture editing program so there would be at least one adult in the neighborhood and after awhile will post the results. We had one scary moment this morning when the Nikon D-70 didn’t want to focus for some reason. I went into its guts to clean with the tool provided which is very scary but it seems better now.

And there was some good news this morning. A Richmond judge ruled that the State was wrong when it tries to extort over one thousand dollars from Virginia drivers for a routine traffic ticket. Governor Kaine and the Assembly decided that taxation without representation was the way to go in order to pay for all their pet programs. Road building, of course, is not a pet program. But if there were not so many expensive pets maybe there would be money to build the roads. What do you think? But don’t worry about the traffic fines if you are passing through the state. We don’t want to drive away business so you will not have to endure a fleecing if you speed. This is a family squabble. Because Virginia is for lovers who want to break up.
